Excerpt from Chapter One
I clutched the stone relic to my chest even
though I knew the act itself was forbidden. Just touching it could cause the
ancient grains to crumble under my fingers and become like sand. Even with such
a risk hanging over my head like the dark storm clouds that billowed outside, I
felt compelled to take the tablet from its security case and hold it in my
hands.
